After doing some extensive research and attending a Chevening campaign organised by the British High Commission in Lesotho, I was convinced that Chevening was the right program to further boost my career and leadership aspirations.

Moreover, the UK boasts a rich tapestry of culture, it is a melting pot of diverse cultures, this has challenged my resilience and adaptability, an indispensable attribute for a transformational leader.

I first heard about the Chevening Scholarship in 2016 through a Facebook post. At first, I couldn’t believe it. was real, but when I saw that a classmate and even someone from my secondary school had been awarded it, I thought, “maybe I could do this too.” I applied that year, but unfortunately, I wasn’t accepted. I didn’t let that stop me. I applied repeatedly, each time holding on to the hope that it could happen. On my third try, I was put on the reserve list, but the war in Sudan, meant I couldn’t travel. Even then, I refused to give up. Despite everything, being displaced, dealing with power cuts, and having no internet, I applied again for the fourth time. And this time, I made it. Winning a Chevening Scholarship feels like the culmination of all that perseverance, and it’s a reminder that no matter the challenges, persistence truly pays off.

Receiving the Chevening Scholarship has truly been a life-changing experience. It has opened up a world of opportunities, connecting me with future leaders from over 160 countries, each with unique backgrounds and ideas. Through my fully funded one-year master’s degree in the UK, I’ve gained not only academic knowledge but also invaluable personal growth. The scholarship has introduced me to an incredible global network, inspiring me to follow in the footsteps of so many passionate individuals who are making a real difference in their countries. This has fuelled my own desire to contribute to Sudan’s procurement and supply chain field.

Beyond the academic experience, living in the UK has been a chance to immerse myself in British culture. Visiting iconic landmarks like Westminster Abbey and Big Ben, and enjoying local traditions like afternoon tea have made this journey even more memorable. It has been both professionally enriching and personally fulfilling.

The Chevening Scholarship has given me the tools, insights, and global perspective I need to help reform Sudan’s procurement systems, attract international investment, and contribute to the future growth of my country. This scholarship has truly shown me that with the right opportunities, change is possible—no matter the challenges we face.
