We are at the heart of computational engineering science, developing computer simulations to solve complex physical problems where empirical enquiries or experimentation are not possible.
Using algorithm development, modelling and simulation enabled by high performance computing, we gain insight into complex problems in sectors ranging from aerospace and transport systems to financial modelling.
Our research and world-leading expertise in large-scale parallel computing, modelling and simulation is being used to develop and improve energy efficiency in aerospace, transport and motorsport applications; improve building design and reduce heating energy efficiency and consumption.
Facilities and resources
The Centre has access to:
- ARCHER, the UK National Supercomputing Service – ARCHER provides a capability resource to allow researchers to run simulations and calculations that require large numbers of processing cores working in a tightly-coupled, parallel fashion;
- Mobile robots for feature recognition;
- Image processing laboratory.
Supporting business
We offer a bespoke service to industry and undertake consultancy work ranging from small-scale and quick feasibility studies to creating long-term solutions.
Businesses are able to support PhDs, either through fully funding research or through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership.
